  1. 1894-1986. English feminist, who married
  2. Bertrand Russell 1921. The `openness' of
  3. their marriage (she subsequently had children
  4. by another man) was a matter of controversy.
  5. She was a founding member of the National
  6. Council for Civil Liberties in 1934. She was
  7. educated at Girton College, Cambridge, of
  8. which she became a Fellow. In 1927 the
  9. Russells founded the progressive Beacon Hill
  10. School in Hampshire. After World War II she
  11. actively supported the Campaign for Nuclear
  12. Disarmament.
